Massively Increase Sales By
Focusing on the Gay Community
Here at the Training-In-Sales site we emphasize working smarter than harder again and again. This article is going to point out the reasons why targeting your sales efforts to the gay community may turn out to be one of the smartest decisions you’ve ever made in terms of business.
Those of you who have yet to get over your prejudice regarding gays may think you want no part of this market. This would be a big mistake on several levels which we will discuss briefly.
First and foremost; it is the teaching of many of the spiritual and religious leaders I have studied that we all need to leave the ‘judging of others’ to God alone.
I think we can all remember situations where we were certain that we were ‘right’ about something, only to then learn some additional information which in turn generated a higher level of understanding. This higher understanding in turn altered the ‘position’ we had initially clung to so strongly. I’m certain this has happened to each of us…
Personally; at some point in the future I believe that humanity will learn that actually there is no right or wrong; just low levels of understanding (prejudice, hate, fear, etc) and higher levels (empathy, kindness, love, etc).
If you’re training in sales I simply don’t think you can afford not to target this market and if you’re a business owner you definitely should not avoid it.
Ok – I’m off my soap box now.
Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why the gay community may offer you tons of ideal prospects for your business:
Fact Number One:
Few gay couples have children. Traditional families with children have far less disposable cash at the end of the month than gay couples do.
Let’s face it, kids are expensive and parents are much more likely to spend their money on their children than on themselves. Traditional families have far more expenses as kids grow up (lessons, medical expenses, clothing, iPods, college funds, etc).
If your sales business involves products or services that are geared towards adults or the products and services that adults want and use - then doesn’t it make sense to target the adults that actually have some money at the end of the month?
Fact Number Two:
With gay couples - both partners typically are working. Not only does is make this a two income household, but gay’s also tend to have the education or creativity that put them in better than average income range (and there are plenty of outright wealthy gays as well).
Fact Number Three:
Since gay couples rarely have children they have a lot more free time and overall freedom to come and go as they please when compared to a traditional family.
No time expended driving back and forth from the myriad of activities kids are involved in these days (soccer practice, karate lessons, music lessons, dance recitals, etc, etc). Since they have much more disposable time; gays have much more freedom for leisure activities including gym memberships, eating out, and traveling.
Fact Number Four:
I think it’s fair to make the generalization (all of these listed facts are – which means they are not 100% ‘true’ in all cases), that most gays are rather sophisticated and enjoy the finer things in life. To achieve that level of lifestyle, they willingly spend their money.
Fact Number Five:
The gay community seems to be far more close knit than the rest of us. This means if you’re providing an outstanding product or service they will happily spread the word about your level of service.
Training In Sales has mentioned many times the incredible importance that testimonials and referrals mean to the success of your business.
That’s it; and if given even the slightest of serious consideration, I think you’ll agree with the Training In Sales team that the information provided here fits our mission of having you work (much) smarter than harder.
